Earlier this summer Jim Bordelon wrote to W&D asking where to find Memphis-style barbecue. He reports back on Pit-Master BBQ Cafe, 343 Sawdust Road in The Woodlands (nearly 50 miles from his Clear Lake home), which was recommended by readers. "The menu says Memphis-style pulled pork sandwich, which means coleslaw on the sandwich. I had my misgivings, but kept an open mind (which I'm not known for) and was pleasantly surprised. It was good". "I also tried the ribs, sausage, brisket, bread, beans and potato salad. That was all I tried, since I just wanted a snack. The ribs were great, tender with a light sauce; the sausage was spicy and perfectly cooked. The brisket was tender and tasty. Even the Texas toast was perfectly toasted. The wait staff was courteous and came around frequently. The owner greeted us as we came in". "The ambience was like many Texas barbecue places, mostly wooden tables with a Western motif and several signs, such as 'Eat in and get out' and 'Beware of pickpockets and loose women.' I looked for the women , but I don't guess any were there at the time. I give the place a 10." |
